OFFRAMP Internal Twist Clutch Kit for 1″ Handlebars – 3/4-Speed & 5/6-Speed
The OFFRAMP patented Internal Twist Clutch System is designed for Harley-Davidson and custom motorcycles built around a clean, minimalist handlebar setup.
It replaces the conventional clutch lever, perch and exposed clutch cable with an internal mechanism concealed inside a 1-inch handlebar. Clutch engagement and disengagement are controlled by rotating the left-hand grip.
The internal mechanism converts grip rotation into linear clutch-cable movement. A Teflon-lined clutch cable and clutch effort-reduction system help reduce friction and improve operating feel.
Rotational resistance and clutch feel can be adjusted to suit the motorcycle’s clutch setup and the rider’s personal preference.
Available in two configurations:
3-Speed / 4-Speed Version
For mechanical cable-operated 3-speed and 4-speed transmission setups.
5-Speed / 6-Speed Version
For mechanical cable-operated 5-speed and 6-speed transmission setups.

- Ideal for Chopper, Bobber and minimalist custom builds
Fitment & Compatibility
Designed for Harley and custom motorcycles using a 1″ handlebar and mechanical cable-operated clutch system.
This system requires a TBW (Throttle-By-Wire) style grip. Compatible TBW grips are available from OFFRAMP.
The TBW-style grip allows the left grip to rotate freely with the internal clutch mechanism.
If you are keeping the stock switch housing, you will normally only need:
- OFFRAMP Internal Twist Clutch Assembly
- TBW Grip (SKU:OR-THG-003)
- If you are using a minimalist switch setup, an Internal Twist Clutch Grip Clamp is also required. This is the same component as our Throttle Grip Clamp and uses the same SKU: OR-THG-002
The clamp secures the grip axially and prevents it from moving or sliding off the end of the handlebar.
Compatible TBW grips and grip clamps are available from OFFRAMP.
Installation
1. Remove the Original Clutch Controls
Remove the left grip, clutch lever, perch and original clutch cable.
2. Prepare the Handlebar
Cut the required locating notches into the left end of the 1″ handlebar. Completely deburr all machined edges.
3. Lubricate the Internal Mechanism
Before installation, apply a small amount of PTFE-grade anti-seize lubricant to the internal slider and mechanical contact surfaces. LCT C5-A or an equivalent PTFE-grade lubricant is recommended. Apply only a thin film.
4. Install the Internal Clutch Assembly
Insert the assembly into the handlebar and align it with the locating notches. Confirm smooth rotation without binding.
5. Route the Clutch Cable
Route the supplied Teflon-lined cable through the handlebar, avoiding sharp bends, pinching and contact with sharp edges.
6. Connect the Clutch Assist System
Install the clutch effort-reduction mechanism according to the selected 3/4-speed or 5/6-speed configuration.
7. Install the TBW Grip
Use the TBW grip with the stock switch housing, or add a grip clamp when using a minimalist switch setup.
8. Adjust and Test
Set cable free play, clutch engagement point and rotational resistance. Verify complete clutch engagement and disengagement before riding.
Thread Locking
Apply an appropriate amount of thread locker to the relevant set screws and mounting screws to help prevent loosening caused by motorcycle vibration.
Do not over-apply, and keep thread locker away from sliders, bearings and rotating contact surfaces.
Adjustment Notice
Correct twist-clutch adjustment is critical.
The ideal setup combines:
Accurate clutch engagement with appropriate rotational resistance.
An excessively light setting may make unintended clutch operation easier, while excessive resistance can increase hand and wrist fatigue.
Before riding, verify that:
- The clutch fully disengages
- The clutch fully engages
- The clutch does not remain partially disengaged when released
- Cable operation remains free at full left and right steering lock
Perform a stationary functional test followed by a controlled low-speed riding test.
